IN-PRISON WORK: OUR PROGRAMME

InHouse Records illustraion: Ollie

InHouse Records provides education and workshops to those inside UK Prisons, those newly released and those not in education, employment or training.

Our accredited curriculum focuses on four main pathways; Music Production, Music Engineering, Music Business and Songwriting.

We encourage learners to span many pathways to build up their overall artistry and command of the music industry.  Our curriculum transfers functional skills, such as Functional English, Mathematics and ICT, to as many  relevant situations as possible.

The Curriculum:

1. Health and Safety In The Studio

2. Recording Equipment

3. Studio Recording

4. Mixing and Mastering

5. Production Techniques

6. Composition

7. Live Performance

8. Artist Development

9. Musicianship

10. Music Business

Recent Programmes

While our curriculum provides a solid backbone for all of the in-prison work we do at InHouse, we have to tailor each programme specifically to the particular requirements and residents of each prison. Recently, we have been working at HMPs Fosse Way, Pentonville, Wandsworth, Feltham and Lewes.

Across HMP Fosse Way and HMP Pentonville, participants can make music and perform in front of others, and access in a space away from prison life that fosters creativity, building confidence and unlocking potential.

HMP Lewes

In Lewes, we continue to work with remand residents on a variety of skills. We are lucky to have access to high-quality equipment in Lewes, allowing us to work on recording the artists, teaching them musical instruments and supporting their songwriting. Many of them have recorded their tracks onto CDs, and we hope to continue recording with many of them as they are released from prison.

HMP Wandsworth - Catch22 and Intuitive Thinking

At HMP Wandsworth, we work with Catch 22 and Intuitive Thinking to provide purposeful creative activities alongside peer support. Music enables people to work through difficult feelings in a supportive environment. It also helps people build connections that can make a real difference during their time in prison and beyond.

HMP Feltham - Catch22 and EY Outreach

At HMP Feltham, we worked with Catch22 and EY Outreach to produce The Reality Check, a podcast giving people the chance to share their prison experiences. Set to be broadcast across UK prisons, the project gives their voice a wider audience and shows how creativity can help people feel heard and understood.
